Sega Master System (SMS) - This system is the closest competitor of the Nintendo NES 8-bit version. It had a superior performance but was lived very shortly because of the technical problems that it had. However, it was able to introduce some RPGs like Phantasy Star. A new version called Game Gear was also released in relation to Sega Master System but had lower resolution and minimal support for some colors.
CrabEmu - This emulator is capable to emulate SG-1000 and Game Gear. It runs in Mac OS X with great portability and accuracy. It also comes with many games. It is licensed through GPL and its source code is already included in the download.
It emulates the Sega Mega Drive, which is otherwise referred to as the Sega Genesis, under Intel Macs. It is written originally by Steve Snake. It is able to emulate other Sega versions like the Sega-CD, Sega Game Gear, Sega 32x adds-ons, SG-1000, SC-3000, and the Sega Pico.
This emulator is capable to copy the Sega Master System and its other version, the Sega Game Gear. It is originally written by Charles MacDonald but was later translated by Richard Bannsiter to the Mac OS X system. The Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear have the same hardware that made it easier to emulate both versions. Also, the games in both systems are playable through the SMS Plus.
